WHEN MONONUCLEOSIS (MONO) BECOMES A DISABILITY IN THE CA WORK PLACE
Mono, or mononucleosis, is a virus that could be affecting how you work. Also known as the “kissing disease,” mono occurs most commonly in adolescents and young adults, but could be lying dormant in your workplace, waiting to infect you. Mono is typically transmitted from individuals not showing outward signs of the virus through saliva, or by sharing a drink, or sharing eating utensils.
Symptoms of mono include:
- Fever
- Lymph nodes that are tender and enlarged/swollen
- Sore throat
- Muscle weakness or aching muscles
- Mental fatigue
- Enlarged spleen
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Loss of appetite
- Depression
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness or disorientation
If you are suffering from mono, you must show your employer that you are disabled and that your disability results in physical limitations but that you are still able to perform the essential functions of your job.
