GAY, AFRICAN AMERICAN AND JEWISH EMPLOYEES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SUE FOR DISCRIMINATION

In California, your employer cannot discriminate against you because of your race, age, religion, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, or gender. Jewish, African American and gay members of a police department sued the department because they claim they are the victims of discrimination and harassment. The employees allege not being promoted because of their race and that their supervisors made inappropriate race-based comments to them. Additionally, the Jewish employee claims that there were several swastikas placed around the office and no one did anything to reprimand the individual who put them up.

Discrimination and harassment are illegal in the CA work place. This means that you do not have to put up with hateful comments or actions. It is the responsibility of your employer to make sure your work environment is a non-hostile, healthy place. Additionally, your employer cannot retaliate against you for reporting instances of discrimination and/or harassment.
